The more available that CBD becomes around the USA, the more it is gaining traction as a great nutritional supplement. As more and more people use CBD, more are wondering how to cook with CBD and incorporate it into healthy cooking.
It might sound counterintuitive to add CBD oil to food when it is easy enough to drop it under the tongue. But creativity was almost always at the crux of the cannabis movement, wasn’t it? Plus, not everybody enjoys the taste of CBD oil, and adding it to food can make it much more palatable.
How To Cook with CBD
Whether you are using CBD oil or CBD isolate (a powdery, shatter-like form of CBD), you can easily cook with it. However, that doesn’t mean that you should go frying your vegetables in CBD oil. There are some very important do’s and don’ts when it comes to cooking with this precious cannabinoid.
Keep the heat low: CBD is delicate
The biggest concern you should have when cooking with CBD is heat. Warming the oil is actually good for CBD, and can even increase its effectiveness.
However, if you heat it up too much you will damage terpenes present in the oil. These are volatile essential oils in the cannabis plant which work synergistically with CBD to give it its healing power. Also, it will taste horrible if you burn it.
So think very carefully about the temperature in the saucepan when you are adding CBD to your food! It’s probably not a good idea to fry up your mushrooms in CBD oil. It might be better to drizzle the dose overcooked food, or only leave it on the heat for a very short time.
Add CBD to Smoothies
One of the easiest ways to incorporate CBD into food is to throw it straight in the blender with some fruit and yogurt. CBD will find its way into your smoothie
There’s no danger of over-heating your CBD this way either. And of course, there are literally thousands of smoothie recipes all over the internet that you can use for inspiration.
Use CBD in Salad D
Hopefully, you’re one of those creative people in the kitchen who doesn’t mind whisking some things together for a salad dressing. Some people much prefer to buy a ready-made salad dressing, but we all know that they can be full of unnecessary chemicals.
Anyway, it’s easy enough to make your own salad dressing at home. Usually, you can throw some olive oil, lemon juice, and some herbs together and call it a day. To add CBD to your salad dressing, simply mix the dose in with the olive oil before mixing with everything else. That’s how easy it is!
CBD in Curries and S
As we mentioned, there’s no sense in putting CBD on the stove or in the oven. It will probably get burned, its medicinal value will be compromised, and it will taste foul. So the best way to incorporate CBD into hot food is by drizzling it on top of your soup or curry.
Adding CBD to a ready-made soup that has already come off the stove is fine. It’s the cooking process and the continually increasing temperature that can compromise your CBD oil or shatter. So next time you prepare a soup this winter, throw a nice dose of CBD in there!
Now, we’re not advocating for high-sugar desserts. After all, CBD is a health supplement, meaning it’s not really conducive with super sugary food. However, that’s not to say that you can’t use CBD in dessert. Just for the record, it’s better to work it into the icing if you’re going to make it with a cake than it is to put it in the oven.
There are healthy options when it comes to desserts, such as fruit salads and frozen yogurt. If you’re going to be making a fruit salad, mix your CBD in with some yogurt and put that on the top. If you’re home making a frozen yogurt recipe, add the CBD oil or isolate to the mix before putting it in the freezer. Freezing CBD does not compromise its medicinal quality.
So long as you don’t compromise your CBD by heating it up too much, the world is basically your oyster. You can make as many CBD recipes in the kitchen as you can make normal recipes!
Just remember that your journey with CBD probably started because you wanted to optimize your health and performance. So stick with nutritionally balanced whole foods that are in line with the entire purpose of using CBD. And finally, enjoy your CBD adventures in the kitchen!
